Get kick-ass banner ads

PHOTOSHOP-ILLITERATE

Banner ads are one of the main ways that any websites advertising campaigns consist of. There are those of us who can create these designs by ourselves and then there are the people who are Photoshop-Illiterate. The latter would need to be either willing to create a crappy image for themselves, learn about it or hire someone to do it for them.

CRAP + FABULOUS=?

If you want to create the crappy image try making it in a way where is crapulous. Which is crap and fabulous. If you would rather have more fabulous then crap I would suggest reading through some tutorials. I will be trying to write some up but in reality I am in the second and third boat. I glean information on how to create great banner ads from Smashing Magazines tutorial roundup, and TheSlayers animated banner tutorial. You can check out Tutorialized.com as well since they are full of tutorials from various websites.

I NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP

So you don’t want to bother creating one for yourself? Yeah, I know what thats like. If you look around various webmaster forums you will see that there are a lot of designers looking for work and there are quite a few who are offering their services or for a low fee so that they can fill up their portfolio.

I recently hired a designer that I know from a popular webmaster forum. This persons name is Jani and I first got to see his work when he designed an avatar for me so that he could add it to his new design websitesgyf avatar portfolio. He was offering free avatars to the forums members and I asked him to create one for my directory. i was really pleased with it so when he announced the opening of his graphic design website I checked it out and loved the look he gave the site. The layout is simple, professional and pleasing to the eye all at the same time. You can see all the avatars that he made for the forum members at His 80×80 Portfolio. You can also see all the other banners he has created in all sizes from that page. Here are the three that I purchased, all for only 30 dollars through the “Special Offer” order.

I would love to have photoshop, unfortunately it’s just not in my budget! I use microsoft publisher and serif draw and gimp, but it’s quite a feat to figure out all 3 of those and get them to work together :) Hiring someone would probably be a way better use of my time!

You’ll be amazed at how many people will do stuffs for free nowadays.. most of designers right now are willing to design simple designs as long as you let your readers know who designs your banner

I had my Entrecard profile 125×125 designed for free

Awesome, I’ve been looking for someone to create one for me for a banner ad spot that I won. I think $30 is a little steep for my needs, and I could probably do it myself, I’m just so lazy! I’ll definitely keep Jani in mind though!

I think its a decent price for more professional needs. And its 30 dollars for three banner ads-thats a steal! I could have created them myself too but I was too busy writing up things for this blog and planning out future posts :p
